These platforms encompass\u00c2\u00a0machine learning,\u00c2\u00a0reasoning,\u00c2\u00a0natural language processing,\u00c2\u00a0speech\u00c2\u00a0recognition and\u00c2\u00a0vision\u00c2\u00a0(object recognition),\u00c2\u00a0human\u00e2\u20ac\u201ccomputer interaction,\u00c2\u00a0dialog\u00c2\u00a0and narrative generation, among other technologies.<\/p>\n<p>In general, the term cognitive computing has been used to refer to new hardware and\/or software that mimics the functioning of the\u00c2\u00a0human brain\u00c2\u00a0(2004) and helps to improve human decision-making.\u00c2\u00a0In this sense, CC is a new type of computing with the goal of more accurate models of how the human brain\/mind\u00c2\u00a0senses,\u00c2\u00a0reasons, and responds to stimulus.<\/p>\n<p>CC applications link\u00c2\u00a0data analysis\u00c2\u00a0and adaptive page displays (AUI) to adjust content for a particular type of audience. As such, CC hardware and applications strive to be more\u00c2\u00a0affective\u00c2\u00a0and more influential by design.<\/p>\n<p>Some features that cognitive systems may express are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adaptive: They may learn as information changes, and as goals and requirements evolve. They may resolve ambiguity and tolerate unpredictability. They may be engineered to feed on dynamic data in real time, or near real time.<\/li>\n<li>Interactive: They may interact easily with users so that those users can define their needs comfortably. They may also interact with other processors, devices, and Cloud services, as well as with people.<\/li>\n<li>Iterative and\u00c2\u00a0stateful: They may aid in defining a problem by asking questions or finding additional source input if a problem statement is ambiguous or incomplete. They may &#8220;remember&#8221; previous interactions in a process and return information that is suitable for the specific application at that point in time.<\/li>\n<li>Contextual: They may understand, identify, and extract contextual elements such as\u00c2\u00a0meaning,\u00c2\u00a0syntax, time, location, appropriate domain, regulations, user\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s profile, process, task and goal. They may draw on multiple sources of information, including both structured and\u00c2\u00a0unstructured\u00c2\u00a0digital information, as well as sensory inputs (visual, gestural, auditory, or sensor-provided).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Cognitive computing-branded technology platforms typically specialize in the processing and analysis of large,\u00c2\u00a0unstructured data sets.<\/p>\n<p>Word processing documents, emails, videos, images, audio files, presentations, web-pages, social media and many other data formats often need to be manually\u00c2\u00a0tagged with metadata\u00c2\u00a0before they can be fed to a computer for analysis and insight generation. The principal benefit of utilizing cognitive analytics over traditional big data analytics is that such data-sets do not need to be pre-tagged.<\/p>\n<p>Other characteristics of a cognitive analytics system include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Adaptability:\u00c2\u00a0cognitive analytics systems can use machine learning to adapt to different contexts with minimal human supervision<\/li>\n<li>Natural language interaction<b>:<\/b>\u00c2\u00a0cognitive analytics systems can be equipped with a chat-bot or search assistant that understands queries, explains data insights and interacts with humans in natural language.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The above is a brief about Cognitive Computing.
