It provides\u00c2\u00a0software as a service (SaaS),\u00c2\u00a0platform as a service (PaaS)\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0infrastructure as a service (IaaS)\u00c2\u00a0and supports many different\u00c2\u00a0programming languages, tools and frameworks, including both Microsoft-specific and third-party software and systems.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft Azure uses a specialized operating system, called Microsoft Azure, to run its &#8220;fabric layer&#8221;:\u00c2\u00a0a cluster hosted at Microsoft&#8217;s data centers that manages computing and storage resources of the computers and provisions the resources (or a subset of them) to applications running on top of Microsoft Azure. Microsoft Azure has been described as a &#8220;cloud layer&#8221; on top of a number of Windows Server systems, which use Windows Server 2008 and a customized version of\u00c2\u00a0Hyper-V, known as the Microsoft Azure Hyper-visor to provide virtualization of services.<\/p>\n<p>Scaling and reliability are controlled by the Microsoft Azure Fabric Controller, which ensures the services and environment do not fail if one or more of the servers fails within the Microsoft\u00c2\u00a0data center, and which also provides the management of the user&#8217;s Web application such as memory allocation and load balancing.<\/p>\n<p>Azure provides an\u00c2\u00a0API\u00c2\u00a0built on\u00c2\u00a0REST,\u00c2\u00a0HTTP, and\u00c2\u00a0XML\u00c2\u00a0that allows a developer to interact with the services provided by Microsoft Azure. Microsoft also provides a client-side managed class library that encapsulates the functions of interacting with the services. It also integrates with\u00c2\u00a0Microsoft Visual Studio,\u00c2\u00a0Git, and\u00c2\u00a0Eclipse.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to interacting with services via API, users can manage Azure services using the Web-based Azure Portal, which reached General Availability in December 2015.\u00c2\u00a0The portal allows users to browse active resources, modify settings, launch new resources, and view basic monitoring data from active virtual machines and services. More advanced Azure management services are available.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft lists over 600 Azure services,\u00c2\u00a0of which some are covered below:<\/p>\n<p><span id=\"Compute\" class=\"mw-headline\">Computer:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Virtual machines,\u00c2\u00a0infrastructure as a service\u00c2\u00a0(IaaS) allowing users to launch general-purpose\u00c2\u00a0Microsoft Windows\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0Linux\u00c2\u00a0virtual machines, as well as pre-configured machine images for popular software packages.<\/li>\n<li>App services,\u00c2\u00a0platform as a service\u00c2\u00a0(PaaS) environment letting developers easily publish and manage websites.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"Mobile_services\" class=\"mw-headline\">Mobile services:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Mobile Engagement collects real-time analytics that highlight users\u00e2\u20ac\u2122 behavior. It also provides push notifications to mobile devices.<\/li>\n<li>Hockey-App can be used to develop, distribute, and beta-test mobile apps.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"Storage_services\" class=\"mw-headline\">Storage services:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Storage Services provides\u00c2\u00a0REST\u00c2\u00a0and\u00c2\u00a0SDK\u00c2\u00a0APIs\u00c2\u00a0for storing and accessing data on the cloud.<\/li>\n<li>Table Service lets programs store structured text in partitioned collections of entities that are accessed by partition key and primary key. It&#8217;s a NoSQL non-relational database.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span id=\"Machine_learning\" class=\"mw-headline\">Machine learning:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Microsoft Azure Machine Learning (Azure ML) service is part of Cortana Intelligence Suite that enables predictive analytics and interaction with data using natural language and speech through\u00c2\u00a0Cortana.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The above is a brief about Microsoft Azure.
